This post is by my other half – Brandon. He is protective as can be and loves to think out any plan of action for any type of situation. Part of this is his EDC (every day carry). A lot of you may not know that this even existed. Basically, he strategically plans what he carries with him each day to ensure safety of himself and others. The world can be a dangerous place guys. And whatever your view on what an appropriate way to defend yourself is – embrace it. Carry the pepper spray and don’t worry if people think you’re crazy. Because the day you run into a situation that may call for it – no one else matters. Even if it is as simple as carrying necessary items like hair bands and a few band aids, I think a small amount of preparedness is key.
Snake Bite Pocket Clip
High quality clip that keeps my keys upright in my pocket to avoid “key bulge”. Doing so keeps me streamline and comfortable. It’s also taking on a nice patina as the black rubberized coating wears away and the brass shows through.
VictoriKnox (Swiss Army) SD knife.
Connected to the pocket clip via an S-Biner is a Victorinox (Swiss army) SD knife. This knife is super small and adds nearly no bulk but it packs a punch for small grooming tasks like hang nails and splinters. Also has standard car keys and house keys ETC.
Fossil Leather Bifold
Leather wallet I’ve had for years that is holding up really well. The leather has started to really take on some character and is becoming more enjoyable to own each day.
iPhone 6s 64GB
I work in sales and am also a college student so my phone is my life line. I use it for everything from research and calls to standard social media stuff.
Magpul Field Case
Magpul is a firearms accessory manufacturer that also makes phone cases. I use their items on my rifle and it works well, so I started using their phone case a few years back. They hold up nicely and are a really cool conversation piece. I went with the orange to avoid losing my phone.
Zero Tolerance 350
This a beast of a pocket knife. It’s not lightweight and it’s not subtle, but I love it. I use it for any hard use cutting tasks and it also fits my requirements for a defensive blade if I needed to use it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND A KNIFE FOR SELF DEFENSE WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING! Pepper spray and other items such as tasers that incapacitate are much more effective. However, because I carry a firearm, I also carry the knife for weapons retention in the event someone is attempting to wrestle my firearm away from me.
Glock 19 Gen 4
My personal preference of firearm. It’s reliable and rugged. Others may prefer a larger caliber or smaller gun but this works for me and if it doesn’t fit your lifestyle – that’s cool too.
The Trijicon night sights are all steel night sights that glow in the dark for easier sight alinement in low light conditions. Also allows for one handed manipulation of the firearm off my belt. Speaking of belts, if you’re going to carry a lot of gear get a solid gun belt. Brand is a personal preference, but do you research and buy quality. I went with a Magpul Tejas, expensive but worth it.
Federal HST 124 gr. 9mm
My preferred carry round. Again, personal preference but if you’re going to carry, spend the money for quality hollow points. Your life is worth more than the cost of ammo.
Galco Triton IWB (Inside Waist Band) Holster
This holster is a custom formed kydex plastic that fits my gun. I prefer all Kydex to leather or other materials for the ruggedness and retention. If I’m knocked to the ground I don’t want my gun bouncing out. This is not the most comfortable holster, but it allows me to conceal a rather large gun in lighter clothing. Again, do your research and buy smart.
Spare Glock 19 Magazine
90% of malfunctions happen in the magazine of a firearm. I don’t carry more bullets because I think I’ll need them. I carry them to clear malfunctions easier. But anyone who has ever been in a gunfight will tell you that more bullets is never a bad thing.
Breathe Strips
There is no excuse for bad breathe, if you like mints or gum go with that. But carry it and use it. Your partner will thank you.
Mini Bic Lighter
I don’t smoke, but sometimes having a lighter comes in handy. In addition, the thing that sets man apart from the animal kingdom is that we can make and control fire. Having a fire source can be the difference between life and death. So I chose life. I also wrapped it in gorilla tape for some added utility and to keep it from sliding around in my pocket.
Lip Balm
I prefer medicated, but that’s just me. There are a million uses for chapstick including curing chapped lips. Weighs nothing and comes in handy so I carry it.
Zebra F-701
This is an all steel pen that writes nicely. Pens are self explanatory in use, however this particular one is nice because it can’t snap in half and bleed all over your pocket. In addition, in a really bad situation it can double as a self defense tool.
FTLL Spinner
This is the newest addition to my carry. This keeps me from biting my nails in class and is also fun to play with when I’m bored. It’s a nice one I found on Amazon with upgraded bearings to spin longer. Also has brass accents because I think they’re cool and are taking a nice patina.
Streamlight MicroStream
Lightweight and easy to use light. I don’t carry a large defensive style light because I think it brings too much attention to me and is too bright to use in an everyday role. This one is cheap and reliable so it gets the nod over my more expensive and larger lights.
Leatherman Juice S2
This is also a newer addition to the edc, but since I’ve been carrying it I’ve been in love. This thing can handle a lot of daily tasks and has a good knife that I can use to beat on opening packages and things I don’t want to use my larger more aggressive folder for. Other great multi tools are the leatherman squirt series that is smaller and the leatherman rebar that is larger. I rotate through these depending on the day.
100% cotton Bandanna
Used for wiping hands and other rag type tasks. Always carry cotton because it can be used to start a fire as well as filter water. I’ve never used it in either way but it’s still a fun fact. After I started carrying one I realized that our grandfathers were onto something back in the day when they carried these.
Citizen ECO-Drive (specific watch listed is different, but similar)
This watch is special to me because it’s the one Hannah bought for me before my job interview. I wear it on special occasions or when I dress up. I have many other watches that I rotate through but this particular one is special to me. As for you folks, pick a watch and wear it. You’ll be surprised how many people comment on a nice time piece.
**Important side note – some of these items are not things that would work for everyone. Make sure to think about what goes on in your daily life and center your carry around that. ALSO, make sure to check your local laws regarding firearms and knives as some of you may live in communist states that don’t allow certain things to be carried. Good luck and carry on.
